How can you help the PTO raise money for our schools and win a pizza party for your child’s class?
What is the Magic Hat? The Magic Hat is a non-profit thrift shop that gives 100% of its profits back to the Marblehead public schools. It is located in the rear of the Veterans Middle School and sells gently used clothing, shoes, housewares, sporting equipment, books and more.
How does it work? In order for CGS to receive our share of the funds, we are required to staff the shop during our assigned weeks. The more hours we work, the more money we can earn for CGS. Over the last few years, our volunteers have earned the CGS over $5,000/year.
Where does the money go? Our PTO uses Magic Hat funds to provide enrichment programs for our schools. These have included special programs from the Tanglewood Marionettes, ArtQuest, the Discovery Museum, Plimoth Plantation and Ipswich River Wildlife.
What are our volunteer weeks for the 2011-2012 year? The shop needs to be staffed Wednesday-Saturday during the school year and just on Saturdays during the summer. We are responsible for covering 9:30am - 2:30pm weekdays and 8:30am - 1:30pm Saturdays on the following dates:
November 2 - 5, 2011
January 4 - 7, 2012
February 15 - 18, 2012
April 4 - 7, 2012
May 16 - 19, 2012
June 30, 2012
August 11, 2012
June 30, 2012
August 11, 2012
What will I need to do if I volunteer? When you show up at the Magic Hat, the first thing you will do is sign in so we get credit for your time. On your first visit, you will have a chance to explore and familiarize yourself with the store. You will then be asked to help with tasks such as organizing the clothing racks, sorting through donations or hanging and tagging clothes.
How do I sign up? Two weeks before our assigned week, you will receive an email request with a link to our SignUpGenius staffing schedule. This year we will be asking each grade to take responsibility for one day of our week on a rotating basis. Just click on the SignUpGenius link and pick the shift that works for you. If you can’t volunteer on your grade’s day, please feel free to pick up a shift on another day.
I can’t volunteer during our week. How else can I help? We aren’t limited to just our weeks! You are welcome to volunteer any time that works for your schedule. Just make sure you sign in so your hours are logged. Another great way to help is to donate your gently used clothing and household items to be resold. It’s a wonderful way to recycle the things you don’t need and keep the money in the community.
Who can I contact if I have further questions? Please contact Lisa Hoguet if you have questions or would like additional information. Thank you!
The class with the most volunteer hours logged between
November 1st and June 1st will win a pizza party!!
